Best Practices: Preventing Plugging in Anilox rolls

Anilox Roller - a foreign term for people outside the printing industry. But for those of us on the inside, we depend daily on the laser-engraved cells of these ceramic-coated cylinders!

According to their cell volume specs, we know the exact amount of coating or ink anilox rollers will transfer. They're consistent and allow us to easily repeat stellar jobs. But what if your anilox cells get plugged? Cell volumes change, leading to irregular results. Try explaining that to the customer ...

The best practice to prevent plugging is maintaining a proper anilox cell cleaning schedule, including:

  • A weekly anilox roller cleaning in-house via a specified solution and wire brush

  • An annual professional cleaning

  • After 5-8 years, it's time to consider a professional re-engraving
